Diet Therapy Categories.

Caloric Restriction - Reduction in caloric intake without reduction in adequate nutrition. In experimental animals, caloric restriction has been shown to extend lifespan and enhance other physiological variables. |

Diabetic Diet - A diet prescribed in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, usually limited in the amount of sugar or readily available carbohydrate. (Dorland, 27th ed) |

Diet Fads - Diets which become fashionable, but which are not necessarily nutritious.(Lehninger 1982, page 484) |

Diet, Fat-Restricted - A diet that contains limited amounts of fat with less than 30% of calories from all fats and less than 10% from saturated fat. Such a diet is used in control of HYPERLIPIDEMIA. (From Bondy et al, Metabolic Control and Disease, 8th ed, pp468-70; Dorland, 27th ed) |
